This immersive one-day experience is designed for complete beginners who want to understand where wild venison comes from — and experience it all, from field to fork. You will be guided through every stage of the process in a safe, ethical, and educational way, with an emphasis on respect for the animal and the quality of the meat.
No previous stalking or shooting experience is required.
You will spend the entire day with an experienced, professional deer stalker who will guide you personally through each stage of the experience. This one-to-one format ensures a relaxed pace, plenty of opportunity to ask questions, and instruction tailored entirely to you.
Meet & Greet and Safety Briefing
The day begins with a welcome and introduction, followed by a clear and thorough safety briefing. Firearm safety, conduct in the field, and what to expect throughout the day are all explained in plain language, making this suitable for total novices.
Range Tutorial and Shooting Experience
Before entering the woodland, you will take part in a guided session on the shooting range. This includes:
Introduction to the rifle and equipment
Safe handling and shooting position
Basic marksmanship principles
Supervised shooting practice
This session is designed to build confidence and understanding, not pressure.
Morning Woodland Deer Stalk
Following the range session, you will head out on a short guided stalk through woodland. Your guide will explain:
Deer behaviour and habitat
How animals are selected responsibly
Ethical and legal considerations
How wild deer contribute to the environment, the economy and sustainable food systems
Even if no shot is taken, the stalk itself is an important and educational part of the experience.
Venison Lunch
Lunch is provided and features wild venison from ethical sources, this may include:
Venison burgers
Venison sausages
Venison steaks
This is a chance to relax, discuss the morning, and experience the end product of responsible wild harvesting.
Skinning Demonstration
In the afternoon, you will be shown how a deer is prepared after the stalk. This includes:
Hygienic handling
Skinning techniques
Explanation of meat care and quality
Everything is demonstrated step-by-step, with a focus on cleanliness, respect, and food safety.
Butchery Tutorial
You will then be guided through a practical butchery tutorial, learning:
How a carcass is broken down
Identification of different cuts
How venison is prepared for the kitchen
Tips on storage and cooking
This part of the day helps connect the experience directly to the food on the plate.
At the end of the day, you will receive a venison hamper to take home, containing a selection of high-quality wild venison cuts and products. This allows you to continue the experience at home and cook with confidence, knowing exactly where your food has come from.
